Question Why war

I honestly don't understand the glory people seem to get from war. It is something I have always wondered about. Why would some one like President Bush, for example, that would want to go to war, especially when he has never been in combat himself? Would he have mad a different decission if he had been in combat and seen mass amounts of people and friends die around him

Franklin Delano Roosevelt:
I have seen war. I have seen war on land and sea. I have seen blood running from the wounded. I have seen the dead in the mud. I have seen cities destroyed. I have seen children starving. I have seen the agony of mothers and wives. I hate war.

General Douglas MacArthur:
I know war as few other men now living know it, and nothing to me is more revolting. I have long advocated its complete abolition, as its very destructiveness on both friend and foe has rendered it useless as a method of settling international disputes.

Hermann Goering:
Naturally the common people don't want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in America, nor in Germany. That is understood. But after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country

Ralph Bunche:
There are no warlike people, just warlike leaders.

Thomas Jefferson:
The care of human life and happiness, and not their destruction, is the first and only object of good government.

Some thoughts on war by smarter men than I.

I dishonor war but then again I do not enjoy terror and innocent people over in other parts of the world getting killed. The thing is that we can not save every little thing that comes to mind... we are only one nation and I would like to see this nation observe peace and good will to other nations. War is never the answer, the only thing that would make sense if some of our innocent suvilians were brought down on our soil by no justification or reason. Poor leadership from our nation and others have turned this nation into a war-hungry crap hole.
