I see what you are saying, but I contend, the Neo-Cons were going into Iraq one way or another, either from Iran or from here. Iran has a history of nuclear ambitions, the need to curtail those ambitions would have occurred at some point, but because of our failures in Iraq, Iran has been emboldened and stepped up their program. Your scenario certainly makes more sense, but it would have been a tougher sell than Iraq, in my opinion.

My scenario also benefits from perfect hindsight vision. It's just another "What if..." scenario. But I do agree with your point, we were going into Iraq one way or another. It was FUBAR all the way.
