I believe this deals directly with what you have stated. The pentagon has now dropped time limits on the time the Guards and Reserves can serve.

Default Hagel on Troop Surge

I think we must have a temporary troop surge so I do not agree with Hagel but thought his POV worthwhile.

One question..I am financially very responsible. I like to know how all proposals will be paid for and the return on the investment. Later I will explain why I think we are obligated to have a temporary surge in troops but have any of those in this administration addressed how this will be paid for.

Are we going to continue to borrow money from other countries or do the American people pay now.

Thank you for the clarification.
So while we do have over 2 million troops counting reserves not all can be used at once.
Makes sense.
AYFR,

No problem. And while we have 2 million people in active service and the reserves only a certain percent of those are actually ground combat troops. Many in the service are support staff, Navy, Air Force, other, etc. who typically wouldn't serve in ground combat.
