Default Be Careful What You Wish For, Democrats

Looks like you guys got what you've been asking for - a vote in Congress on whether to pull out the troops. The base may like it, but the Democratic politicians are scrambling - looks like a smart strategy to me. Force the people who have been trying to be on all sides of the issue to actually take a stand - and this time they won't be able to please everybody.

The Republicans are going to come out of this one stinking just as bad as the Democrats. This was just a plain stupid idea to pull a vote like this. No one wants significant bills to have to worry about the week before Thanksgiving unless they're a necessity, which this wasn't. Just politicking and I'll remember who called it next year just before the off-year elections of 2006.

Whoa, did you get out of the wrong side of the bed, LibertarianForever??? What's with the "looks like you guys got what you wanted" crap remark??? For one thing, I hardly consider lumping people who have a multitude of politic leanings but just happen to not support the war in Iraq into a group of "you guys" and then equating that group with "the base" (whatever that is) of which "Democratic politicians" are a part of, and the rest have been on all sides of the issues without taking a stand, which somehow pleased people? Huh? I don't think anyone (except with a few exceptions in the White House) is actually on all sides of this issue.

Where I will agree with you is that it is time this nation decided one way or another where it stands on this issue and then does the job if the vote is to stay in Iraq, so troops can be out as soon as possible.

Then we'll just make a bunch of Canadian wusses go in and "keep the peace"

It didn't even end up working out as a strategy - the GOP leaders wrote the bill slightly differently from what Murtha wanted so all the Democrats were able to use that as a reason to vote against it, regardless of their personal views.
