Default "Reporter" changes tune

Quote:
She strongly disavowed statements she had made during captivity in Iraq and shortly after her release, saying she had been repeatedly threatened.

Quote:
In a video recorded before she was freed and posted by her captors on an Islamist Web site, Carroll spoke out against the U.S. military presence. On Saturday, she said the recording was made under duress.

"During my last night in captivity, my captors forced me to participate in a propaganda video. They told me I would be released if I cooperated. I was living in a threatening environment, under their control, and wanted to go home alive. So I agreed," she said in a statement.

"Things that I was forced to say while captive are now being taken by some as an accurate reflection of my personal views. They are not."

The only problem is that her comments were made when she was NOT in captivity. I suspect an ulterior motive.

Quote:
Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., who was held prisoner for more than five years during the Vietnam War, said Carroll found herself in "a terrible, terrible position" and said Americans should view her taped statements critical of the U.S. military presence in Iraq in that context.

"We are glad she's home. We understand when you're held a captive in that situation that you do things under duress. God bless her, and we're glad she's home," McCain said Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press."

Of course, this guy continues his love affair with a news camera unabated.

What do you think? Am I being a cynical "liberal" media-hater here?

Well I will answer the question since this isn't getting any notice.

I AM a liberal-media hater, and I distrust all media motivations from Fox to CNN, from WSJ editorial page to NYT editorial page.

Well yes. That is most certainly a possiblity and I concede that it was more emotion than fact that inspired it.

Here's a little air cover from a not-so-leftist source:
frontpagemag.com/Articles/ReadArticle.asp?ID=21970///
It's longish.. but here is the link to the NIE report from Oct 2002.

http://www.fas.org/irp/cia/product/iraq-wmd.html

In doesn't sound like hysterical fear-mongering.. and when you start to consider all the other events in the region.. War against Iraq was definitely a viable policy for the US.. after all.. Pres Clinton had authorized "regime-change" in 1998.

http://http://www.cnn.com/ALLPOLITIC.../clinton.iraq/
..
Now you could weasel about how it was merely diplomatic rhetoric..
But that is exactly the way international politics happens.
Not some indignant complaint about whose interests are served..

This is a link to Al Jazeera.. notice how similar our friends here on this forum sound like our enemies.

Or is this also a dumb post?

Isn't it strange how this traitorous ho just fell off the interest of the liberal media?

I think that they are covering up for her. Just like they did for the Rosenbergs.

Just like they did for Sacco and Vanzetti.

Just like the NYT did for the USSR.

Senator Joseph McCarthy is one of America's greatest heros.

He exposed the democrats as the filthy godless commies that they are.

I agree that the Rosenbergs shouldn't have been executed though.

Although this little ghetto-snipe should be arrested and sent to a redoctrination camp.

Several weeks ago I discussed this in depth on another forum.

This whole story was fishy from the start, when she was talking about how well she was treated by her captors.

but since then, we learned of the hoax video, that clears it up.

I really dont think FOX is LIBERAL........not at all, in fact where did bush get his new man? From Fox....

Alot of these stories work out to be great media smoke screens, keeping us from learing about other issues that get buried on the back page of the times, or can only be found on the net.....

People are more concerned about what Tom Cruise named his baby, or who is going to be on American Idol, then the fact another 20 Americans died today in Iraq.

I don't either but according to congressional hearings several years ago Fox only controlled 3% of the US media market.

Well that is obviously not true of those of us here.

I do however know that Surrey is the baby's name, and that some girl named Kelly Clarkson won the American Idol competition sometime in the past.
