I was going to question about the media's stance on the Iraq War, mainly whether they were choosing a side between staying and quitting in Iraq. I don't think the media in Vietnam, initially knew of the consequences of their actions, where here in the present, the media can set the scene with the propaganda that they choose to air.

Oh, I have no doubt that the media knew exactly what they were doing in Vietnam, just as they know exactly what they're doing now.

I don't know, I think they initially thought they were airing footage from a John Wayne classic with live bodies, where in the end the hero would win. it wasn't until the reaction of the people back in the States, to the body bags, the victims of US bombing raids, where little girls were shown burned and scarred and children who had been mutilated by shrappnel and such, did it hit the media as to the extent of their power, which they weilded to the full extent of their whims. I would say their beliefs but I don't think they have any. Just like the SS of Nazi Germany, who were in control of the camps, it wasn't their beliefs that endangered the victims. Accepting it was a way of being able to express the control they held over life and death.
