Well, dlrrtx, I have my theory....now, understand this is just my own theory. I think that Bush and Co. thought that they were going to find some sort of chemical weapons program in Iraq. And I thought they would too. Now, it wasn't going to live up to all of the pre-war hype...."mushroom clouds," "worst and most dangerous weapons known to mankind," etc. But, the truth is...it didn't need to. One Tide box full of anthrax and there would have been those who thought they saved the world...because
a) people in this country were scared of their own shadows after 9/11
b) people overestimate the WMD boogeyman.

The fact that they found absolutely nothing had to flabbergast them.

They didn't have to. All they needed was a foot in the door. The noe-cons had near impunity to do whatever they wanted, and if the sacrificial lambs of the admin (gonzales, libby, etc) couldn't keep the wolves at bay, they could fall back on executive privilege to protecte them from whatever else would come.

They knew their sources were questionable at best. Claiming bad intel and plausible deniability is much easier than planting evidence on that scale, and it kept things tight to the admin, no loose ends, no surprises. Ya gotta remember, you're dealing with lawyer mentality, not sneaky mobsters. Plausible deniability was a slam dunk.

Well, thanks for the correction....except I'm not sure I agree with it. What did Iraq have to do with the terrorists that made us so mad...namely, the ones that hit us during 9/11?

Also, they have found remnants of an very and dead weapons program and had been dead for 12+ years....they found nothing of a current and vibrant program. I suggest you read the 2004 CIA report.

But, like I said before, the dreaded WMD boogeyman was nothing but smoke and mirrors.
