Actually, I agree with you that we haven't really been "defending" our country in the last sixty years.
What I found trollish was your characterization of the military as another welfare program for lazy, inept people who can't hack it anywhere else. The American military is incredibly competent, vastly superior to any other military in the world. They can't help it where the President sends them. Nor is it in their job description to choose where they go.
