Default Ex-officials: Bush admin. ignored Iraq corruption

WASHINGTON - The Bush administration repeatedly ignored corruption at the highest levels within the Iraqi government and kept secret potentially embarrassing information so as not to undermine its relationship with Baghdad, according to two former State Department employees.

Arthur Brennan, who briefly served in Baghdad as head of the department's Office of Accountability and Transparency last year, and James Mattil, who worked as the chief of staff, told Senate Democrats on Monday that their office was understaffed and its warnings and recommendations ignored.

Brennan charges the State Department never responded to his team's report, which was retroactively classified because agency officials said it could hurt bilateral relations with Iraq.
Nothing about Iraq has been on the up and up since the bushies decided to invade. We've been fed lie after lie in order for them to cover up their monstrous screw up.

There is always going to be corruption in this sort of country building. There was in Germany and Japan after WWII. But as a government you have to ignore some of it in order to get the whole job done so you don't stay there forever and a day.

Why is it that Iraq has to take a different approach to country building than after any other war in history? People are still people no matter what century you are in. Not saying that its right, but that is just the way it is and has always been. So if you want us out of Iraq then you cannot expect us to stop every time corruption rears its ugly head.

Besides, who the hell are we to say they can't have corruption. We have some of the most corrupt people in the world running our government here today. And it ain't Bush.

I think I just said that.

So we should have just turned the whole damned place into a glass parking lot and started over.

OK....then who are we to decide that we can just murder millions (including women and children) and turn their homes and land into a "glass parking lot?"
