Default Disabled Veterans

AP IMPACT: Number of disabled veterans rising - Yahoo! News

WASHINGTON - Increasing numbers of U.S. troops have left the military with damaged bodies and minds, an ever-larger pool of disabled veterans that will cost the nation billions for decades to come — even as the total population of America's vets shrinks.

Despite the decline in total vets — as soldiers from World War II and Korea die — the government expects to be spending $59 billion a year to compensate injured warriors in 25 years, up from today's $29 billion, according to internal documents obtained by The Associated Press. And the Veterans Affairs Department concedes the bill could be much higher.

Why?

Worse wounds. More disabilities. More vets aware of the benefits and quicker to file for them.

Also, ironically, advanced medical care. Troops come home with devastating injuries that might well have killed them in earlier wars.

<snip>

Here's a bit more of the harsh reality...

"It's turned me from a really alive, pretty happy person into somebody who is numb. I don't know how to feel anymore," she said.

It is sad, but true.

Advanced technology and medical care have allowed more military members to live, yet, in the end, with the PTSD, is it worth it to them? Kinda reminds me of Wolf's suicide thread.

The part of the article that bothers me is "More vets aware of the benefits and quicker to file for them." Tricare and with the majority of the military will not tell you of benefits you can receive. It's mostly word of mouth.

Another sad and very telling truth is that I've started a number of these threads...a couple on here and many elsewhere...and they never get much response.

My brother-in-law finally got treatment and disability benefits for his PTSD...talk about a fiasco and jumping through hoops.

He was a Marine...

...in Viet Nam.

The way the US treated past vets, especially Vietman, is embarassing.
It's also embarassing you need to jump through hoops to get proper medical care. As I said before, I don't trust the hand that feeds me and I know that hand will screw my family over in a heartbeat as they have in the past.

This is how Democrats in Congress run healthcare for Americans.
Collect taxes to pay for it and then do not offer the services. It's a great profit machine. Who is going to sue the Politicians for medical malpractice or negligent homicide?

Military members can't sue for medical malpractice or negligent homicide.
