I remember a recent piece by a person who, while disdainful of the gross incompetence and lies that Bush brought to the occupation, cautioned that Iraqis may still be afraid to voice their real opinions. "U.S. out!" is a lot safer to say than "maybe Americans should stay and keep providing security that the Iraqi gummint ans its forces can't."

As for postwar Germany, that planning began as early as 1943. There was a basic template with which to go by after VE Day. In Iraq, if one were paying attention instead of shouting how great we were, it was apparent that Bushco didn;t know wtf was going on and had no clue, or plan or basic knowledge of the country they were inheriting.

Nothign Americans do for anybdoy is ever a good thing. Right a thousands articles about it. Its still nonesnece. Iraqis will rebuiold they will chose ther path. America will do nothing but prolong the war destroy the nation and fail and FORCING a goverment upon them.

Good to know who the ones are that hate their own country and hate themselves.

The USA has done a lot of good around the globe. No we are not perfect and yes we have made lots of mistakes. However I would argue that we have done far more good in the world than we have harmed.

The people of Iraq know that at some point we will not be there. They look forward to that. But in the mean time they are great full to have a taste of freedom and self rule. I think more and more of them are starting to see the advantage of such a government. People are starting to work together and they are begining to lay down their weapons and pick up brooms. It will take time and it will never be perfect there, but what we started is a good thing even if we made some mistakes along the way.
