That's fine...back to your numbers. One thing you need to keep in mind is the changing size of the US military. In the 1980s, approximately 4.1% of the population was in the military; today, it's more like 2%. That means that the US military was about 1.7 times larger in the 1980s than today. What does than mean for your numbers: Since OIF, US military personnel have been dieing at a
rate that is about 40% higher than they were in the 1980s. And if you start talking about the number of injuries, I can only guess that they have been much higher in the past five years than they were in the 1980s. To date there have been ~30 thousand US injured in OIF; 13,000 considered serious. Casualties can take a serious toll on a military.
