Default Iraq: Putting together a puzzle

It was probably a professor of Energy Policy I was talking with (former Marine Col. Dr. Scire) who had said that in 2001 Bush and his administration had determined that the world was on a precipice of an economic disaster if oil was not secured (meaning freely available).

But I found his argument that it was the US itself that Bush and his "cronies" were concerned with - to be lacking.

Well I think I found the missing puzzle piece.

Japan.

In 1987 Japan's sale of US Bonds resulted in the financial market crash of that year....Japan is permanently (or at least painfully) stuck to the hip of the US because of the equity and real estate and bond ownership of the US in Japan's portfolio.

Japan holds the most US Debt of foreign holders...by 2 times more than the runner-up.

Were Japan's economy to implode the US would probably be pulled right down with it.

Sure enough - Japan imports over 78% of their oil from the Middle East, and as a result have been constantly politicking over how they are going to get all their oil requirements - a real scramble for the last bags of groceries in the store.

By opening Iraq ... Iran having seized Japan's oil equities in their nation (just recently) Japan is currently (even now) frantically trying to re-open new deals with Iraq's Oil Minister...

And so.....whether we want to deny it or not...

Our soldiers in Iraq are fighting for our "freedom" since our freedom refers to our standard of living...and since our standard of living is inextricably linked to Japan's well-being, and Japan's well being is inextricably linked to getting available oil from the Middle East.

How the world does turn....

You're such a fucking retard...the US standard of living is entirely dependent upon one thing, the free flow of oil...without which we'd be back to bread-lines, no toilet-paper, and no homes....

laughs...there is some truth in it though.....if the R's hadn't been bought by big oil, maybe we could have had a REAL energy policy, not just a good 'ol boy oil policy.....

You mean like *thinks* oh nevermind....there's nothing but oil.

Even Japan - the most progressive great power in energy policy is dependent upon over 58% of its energy needs coming from oil (78% comes from the Middle East).

Japan has been spending BILLIONS of US Dollars to develop clean synthetic fuels, alternative energy sources and etc. etc.....

Your argument that this has ANYTHING to do with "big Oil" and "buying up politicians" is as stupid as Migueld's bullshit. Grow a brain, and learn the truth you fucking wanker and stop listening to Democrats' bullshit.

Well of course. At the very beginning it was called Operation Iraqi Freedom.

But they got rid of that very quickly because it was too honest.
It's always been an oil war. Too bad the 'means justify then ends' has shown yet again no matter how one cuts it, evil prevails.

The evil is the death by a thousands paper cuts of little lies & manipulations done over the last 8 years by this administration.

They've said reasons for the invasion was practically everything under the sun other than the obvious. Stable control of the oil spigot in the ME. They wanted Iran as well but because of the pathetic post planing or lack there of they ruined any chances of making that a reality.

So we are faced with a VERY fragile control of these oil fields & no guarantee of it's long term stability.

No matter what our REAL intentions where, we did a piss poor job of carrying it out.

We shall see how this unfolds.

Ok you go buy a Volt and see if that changes the world...because it won't...not for decades anyway so for now we're hooked on Oil...it's not "forced upon us by big evil oil"...it's just the way of the world. It won't change over night.
