Military after Action reports. In knwing where fights aoccured they can spceficaly find houses where cicilains were killed in that fighting. Major sucide attacks the count is there cause they are hauling out the bodys. Thnic type infighting would be more difficult but at least they would be looking in spcefic areas instead of randomness

Well, if you only focus your polling on the "affected" areas, then how big or how many people do these areas contain? What has happened outside of the "affected" areas, e.g., how many people have died? I don't think you're going to get a very complete answer this way once you start to extrapolate.

It would be pretty easy in the US to determine how many people died due to violence. You could randomly sample Social Security numbers of people alive January 1, 2007; then, determine how many have died since then (up until December 31, 2007). Finally, determine the number of fatalities due to violence. If your random sample is large enough, you'll probably get a decent answer. There's nothing like this in Iraq. Polsters have to go door to door...which is much harder and more dangerous.

The estimated enemy strentgh and postion. It will explain how and with what weapons the enemy was engaged. Whatever civlains that were admited to the morgue or hopsital at that time were casulties. The iraqis might not have paperwork trails by the Coaltion Forces will. IN short I think the wrong people are being polled.

They are looking for an approximate number for all violence-related deaths in Iraq since March 2003. I'm not sure how often Coalition Forces have been around to record all such events throughout Iraq.
