Sure there are some anecdotal success stories, but the place is still a fucking mess...and the Billions spent could have been spent much better.

At the end of WW2 Europe was an absolute disaser, its industry all but destroyed, its economy in shambles, millions of displaced people. All of that would have been avoided if Europe had merely rolled over and allowed its subjegation by Nazi Germany. Are you willing to say Europe would have been better off intact under Hitler or mangled and all but destoryed under George Marshall?

We invaded Iraq, not vice versa.....

Kind of a different situation....we were justified to defend ourselves In WWII....

We weren't defending ourselves invading Iraq....that has been PROVEN.

This is much more like Vietnam than WWII....

It does matter, the end results were the same and we were not attacked by the Germans and probably never would have been had we not gone to the aid of England. Hitler had no means of attacking the United States, hell, he couldn't even get across the Channel, much less the ocean

Oh c'mon Nathan....Iraq could barely get across the border....your argument is pretty weak....

The Nazi's were working on weapons that could have reached the East Coast......they WERE a threat....and they destroyed large parts of British cities....

Iraq was not and is not. Neither is Iran....

There was no theart from the Germans. Woderweapons on blueprints were a matter of specualtion. Everybody talks about if it had gone till 46 and all the weapons that suposedly would of came out. Yet nobdy ever links things together with these things in world war two. Germany had no material for producign such weapons. They could replace the losses fast enough to stem the Red tide and come up with these aircraft. Some concpet drawings of a bvomber that could hit new york were found. There was no reality in that ever being a realistic weapon. Flattening the shopkeepers in 1940 is a world away from crossing the atlantic with planes in 44 or 45.

Given that, any comparison of a third rate shithole like iraq coming close to the achivements of Germany militarily is fucking ludicris beyond words. No navy ever worth mentioning. A completely defunct air force and 2.3rds of a countrys airspace under US control....my god. Not to mention the substatinal us forces to the south and the ability for realtively rapid deployment of more in a short time. 1991 wasnt some fluke its what happens when a properly trained and motivated conventional US force is unleashed on backwoods nation. Theres no way Iraq would ever get anywhere with military force again.

There was actually quite a threat from the Germans...their uboats were on the East Coast....and at one time the German navy was pretty capable...way more so than Iraq even now....

Agreed on the wonder weapons, but they did have an active program...

That was my basic point after all.....the comparison Nathan made to Germany & WWII was not even close to accurate. Vietnam is far closer, IMO
