I usually skip right over your post but you make a lot of sense with these. I am a Vietnam vet and I am amazed at how coddled our troops are today and we were given breaks in the 60's that our fathers who served in the 40's would never have believed. You cannot have a politically correct fighting force, Nor can you have a military that thinks everything can be solved in an hour and you don't even have to miss your nap time.
Furthermore, these people that think there should be no collateral damage in a firefight would shit their pants if they were ever in the middle of one. They need to keep in mind that civilians would not be killed if the enemy would not use them for body armour. You are correct in that in a firefight each soldiers main objective is to come out of it alive. He is not very concerned about the niceties of not shooting innocent people.

I don't think it is our troops that necessarily want/need to be coddled. This trickles down from the politically correct bullshit that happens in Washington. I think most of these boys would kick the necessary ass needed if they didn't have to run through their PC list of war tactics before pulling the trigger.

Although, Clinton pulled that great shtick with sending our guys into Somalia with their hands tied behind their back.
