Because we have to, Stryker....it's our responsibility. Like Powell said, you break it and you buy it. We broke it...so we bought it. If we had left Iraq at the end of 2003 (like the original game plan said which was based on phase 4 going much, much smoother and easier) and Iraq had fallen into massive chaos....a true humanitarian disaster....our international standing would be absolutely destroyed.....along with GWB's legacy...and he knows that. Not to mention, areas with chaos and the lack of government are prime breeding grounds for groups like Al Qaeda.

In short, Stryker, we are there because we have to be....it's our responsibility and we are paying for it.

So you would agree that pulling out now would be grossly irresponsible?

Certainly a strong chance of it. Since the violence has recently taken a downward trend, I think we should ride the wave and see how much more we can help. Honestly, Stryker, had the violence continued to rise from 2006 through 2007, I might have started thinking that it was time to cut our losses...and get the hell out. But, things have improved....let's see what happens.
