Yeah, I'm happy it's better....that IS good news, but "permanent hold?"

I'm skeptical. So far this administration hasn't gotten much of anything right.
So yeah, I'm less than ecstatic.

I thought it complete bullshit before we went in, and now I think it was completely fucking insane.....one of the biggest blunders in US history...

The joy meter is definitely NOT pegged!

Stryker,

I agree with Cranky...good news is good news and the less violence and the less people die the better. But, it's hard to get real optimistic about the situation in Iraq. Like I said before, it could be nothing but rainbows and lolly pops in Iraq from here onward....and it is still a huge fuck up on our part.....I don't see anyway around it.

The Iraqis dont seem to think it was bullshit or insane. They tend to shake our hands and bring us food and tea everytime we stop by. They seem pretty appreciative of our efforts. I wish the same could be said about the people back home.

Well, Stryker, that's good and I'm glad they are. But, here's the crux of the matter....we didn't get into this thing to help the Iraqis. We got into it primarily because of our own fear....and what turned out to be false fears. And 5 years, 600 Billion dollars, and many thousands of lives later, it's hard to focus on the positives. The fact that you can and you continue to do your job over there definitely deserves and has my respect. Personally, I'm having a hard time seeing past the big picture.

A big part of the reason we came here was to help the Iraqi people. I dont know why this fact is constantly denied. If we didnt come here to help them, we wouldnt go out of our way to protect them, rebuild their country from the ground up for them. In the long run, the world will be a better and safer place because of what we did in Iraq.

Because it is not true. It was the WMDs, and the mushroom clouds, and the yellow cake, and memories of 9/11, etc. That was the primary reason that people supported the invasion of Iraq....no way around it, Stryker. Had "helping the Iraqis" been the primary reason, the American people would not have supported it like they did....of that, I'm certain.

Then tell me. Why ARE we rebuilding their country? Why are we providing social and economic services for the Iraqis? Is it all an elaborate cover up?

Agree...and the fact this administration is ignoring invasions of Kurds into Turkey and Turkey into Iraq is focusing on a small area of the country and saying we have "success". When you've displaced over 2 million refugees outside the country and over one million displaced inside the country away from the surge fighting, you can't really detemine what the causes are for less casualties...especially when reports of increased fighting are erupting all over the nation.

You bet...its the raping and pillaging of our funds..and how much has gone missing? Like the weapons, billions of dollars have disappeared in Iraq
