Deaths in Iraq 'continue to fall'
BBC NEWS | Middle East | Deaths in Iraq 'continue to fall'
Last Updated: Thursday, 1 November 2007, 14:26 GMT
The number of violent civilian and military deaths in Iraq has continued to drop, figures for October suggest.
There is no single reliable source for statistics but a number agree on a marked improvement, correspondents say.
They say this is generally attributed to the US and Iraqi troop surge in and around Baghdad that began in February.
Analysts say other key factors are the halt in operations by Shia cleric Moqtada Sadr and the abandonment of al-Qaeda by some western Sunni tribes.

Well, there's probably no response, Smitty, because....well, it's Gix. But, I'll respond to you. As I said before, the drop in violence is a good sign...we weren't going to make any progress until that happened. So, what does that data for 2007 look like? The fact that there is a drop in violence at this point in time would be consistent with previous years (remember....we've already had this discussion). In 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006, we saw a pretty significant drop in the violence around November....probably due to Ramadan (IMHO). How does 2007 compare to the previous years both in magnitued and trend??

>>>I can. 10 U.S. troops were killed in the first five days of November 2007. So much for the "surge working" crap, wouldn't you agree?

wow it took you that long.. talk about dense..... as far as your point. it's mute. No one is denying that more GI died this year. This was actually expected... Due to the operations that where going to be performed..
The whole reason the surge was set into motion was to achieve the results we are seing today...
