A Vietnam vets take
I was reading Stars and Stripes today and opened to the opinions page, where I came across this. Thought it was worth reposting
Dissenters doing a disservice
During the Vietnam War, I had no knowledge of what role politics played in the worlds arena. With my mother consent, I joined the Marine Corps after I turned 17. I spent my 19th birthday in Khe Sanh in 1967 before I was sent to the demilitarized zone, where I was wounded.
I remember sleeping in foxholes with water up to my chest. During many firefights, I can recall an onslaught of weapons fire coming from the enemy and cries from my comrades as they were wounded. I sustained mutliple shrapnel wounds, which subsequently ended with me being put on 100% disability.
Listening to the Democratic politicians today regarding the Iraq war, I can only wonder how we ever survived to become the United States of America.
During all of our battles and wars, there was never any doubt about what had to be done for mankind, until now.
Insulting a general who serves honorably with a full page ad in the New York Times appears to be acceptable to most Democrats. Debasing a sitting president during a time of war is deemed healthy debate. Politicians denouncing the war in Iraq couldnt care less that they are selling our country to terrorists.
As for the terrorists: when a murderer wants to take a life, no matter what the reason, there is no compromise. There is no pleading or debating. There is no humanity. There is only death.
The elected officials who came into power in 2006 who oppose out president at every turn are doing a disservice to the military as well as our people Their self serving attitude is despicable and sickening. The people of this country had better stop deluding themselves that peace will come before the fight is finished.
