No the reporter that caught Murtha in the elevator was misleading or misinformed because he told Murtha charges had been dropped against Marine Capt. Lucas McConnell for failing to report the killing of 24 Iraqi civilians at Haditha . McConnell was granted immunity from prosecution by Lt. Gen. James Mattis [official profile], commanding officer at Camp Pendleton , California, in exchange for his cooperation in prosecutions against other accused service members. Murtha was smart to ignore the misinformed reporter because that man was lying to him. Why bother answering a reporter that does not bother to get the facts straight.
Anyway I thought Murtha condemned the murders yet seems understanding of the stress the marines were under. A good marine would not be part of this type of incident and would be quick to condemn those marines who would jeopardize the safety and reputation of our USMC by this hideous act. Those marines not only committed murder they endangered our troops further and tried to stain them. I think most Americans know the marines involved in this incident are not representative of our troops. There are always a few bad apples in all professions.
I didn't know that. Thanks for the clarification. however, if Murtha knew that then it was his responsiblity to tell that to the reporter instead of ignoring him as if he was better than him. Let us not forget that it is these politicans who are supposed to be working for people like us - not the other way around. Murtha was wrong for handling that the way he did. And if you are correct in your interpretation of what's happening in that trial then the reporter was wrong for not having his facts together.
No I think if politicians are blindsided by reporters who ask them questions that are not known to the poltician or that the reporter does not have his facts straight he is better off not answering the question.Murtha was being ambushed and he was astute to pick up on the misinformation.
Anyway the focus of the discussion if there is one should be on what these marines did to innocent citizens and to other marines. I think Murtha was kinder then most in the media because he did recognize their stress.
