SULAIMANIYAH, Iraq - An Iranian officer accused of smuggling powerful roadside bombs into Iraq for the elite Quds force was arrested Thursday, the military said.

The suspect — a member of the Quds Force, an elite unit of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards — was detained in the Kurdish city of Sulaimaniyah, the military said.

He was allegedly involved in transporting roadside bombs, including armor-piercing explosively formed penetrators, or EFPs, into Iraq, according to a statement. It said intelligence reports also indicated he was involved in the infiltration and training of foreign fighters in Iraq.

Officials have said the Bush administration is expected to soon blacklist the Quds force as a terrorist organization, subjecting part of the vast military operation to financial sanctions. The move would be in response to Iranian action in Iraq and elsewhere.

I don't really have anything to say since it was obvious this has been going on for some time now. I just want to see how others respond by saying that Iran is not a threat and that Iran is not part of the insurgency.

Of course, Iran is playing a role in the insurgency....how big of a role??? I don't know. I think it's safe to say that Iran has more of a vested interest in how Iraq turns out....than we do. So, I think it would be silly to think that they wouldn't get involved somehow.

Would you admit that:

- the US is supplying weapons to Anbar insurgents that have killed Americans in the past and are probably still killing them now?

- Saudi Arabia is sending and funding foreign fighters in Iraq.

- Turkey has sent troops into Iraq to kill Kurds.

- Everyone in the region hates and kills American, because the USA unilaterally aid and supports the terrorist state of Israel.

- Bush has put American in the middle of a Holy War, fueled by stupid religious fanatics on both sides.

Humm, the article is about 7 sentences long.

The one (1) guy was "detained", not arrested. How much damage can one guy do?

I cannot draw much of a conclusion from that article. I certainly wouldn't shoot my mouth off with accusations based on it.

This happened up in Kurdish terrortory. They probably will formulate any news requested by Bush.
