I think bin Laden took one look around, saw how totally fucked up Islamia is, and decided to blame it all on outside forces, hoping it would bring him power and fame.

America has never needed a reason to topple foreign governments, whether they were dictatorships or democratically elected: such as Salvador Allende of Chile: If America does not like the outcome of the elections they simply used force to change things. If fact America prefers to deal with dictators, the more ruthless the better, so long as they are obedient to American interests.
