Actually, I know people who have done that. Mostly because they don't want to present a target to people, sort of fly under the radar.

Personally I find it silly (even sillier to have any pin), but given the nastiness of some european's, I don't fault people for doing it.

Being American means being smart enough to take advantage of the situation!

A lot of my friends have traveled to Europe in the past year and none of them tried to conceal their identies as Americans.

They said the only place people were not that nice to them was France, but then we have to overlook those pansys.

I don't personally know anyone that has done that but if they feel safer that's their choice. I wouldn't do it.
