What about all those classic 50s automobiles I see in all the footage of modern Cuba. Chip Foose would be set for life. Fidel...you've just been overhauled.

Nothing like a wonderful Communist product from Cuba's state of the art factories...and the Soviets (ala Stalin and Kruschev) had the Trabant (what a piece of s*** that was), yep, Communism will take over the world, whoopee!...the Cubans can't even get a good '62 Impala to drive let alone any air conditioning (even if you had the money). I lean more left of moderate but Kennedy was right to try and overthrow that idiot, Fidel has screwed them over 10 fold, and only 90 miles from the Florida coast. I have some Cuban friends that still can't believe people support Castro (not a whole lot...you get taken to jail if you speak up against him, half or more of the people on this site would be taken to jail for the comments we make about the present EB if we were in Cuba)...Cubans supported him to change a corrupt government and then Castro turned around and made Batista look like a piker when it comes to measuring evil and corrupt leaders. Castro is on the level of Pol Pot, Hitler, and Stalin...I hope the place can change fast when he finally kicks the bucket.

This I find funny, whenever Cuba becomes a little over populated, Castro lets a shitload of unwanteds out and because you see them as victims of a Communist Persecutional Regime they are welcomed citizens, not like them dirty Mexicans hey. I've never heard of the coast guard forcing them back into their decrepid boats and shoving them off in the general direction of Cuba, hit or miss. Maybe I have watched Scarface to many times and you do prevent them coming across now it just isn't told worldwide. Silly me.

I like you bloke and like to read what you write but I have to be a bit critical here. It is a very complicated situation down there in Miami (Fl coast, the U.S.) vs Cuba. It is not as cut and dry as you see in the news and the US Government is under a lot of pressure from two sides that are both against Castro. I am not sure you are seeing all the stuff that goes on. One side says don't take people fleeing from Cuba because this approves what Castro does with his ruthless and self centered policies and another side says take these people because they are political refugees. This is not like the situation with Santa Domingo or Mexico at all; I think it is a bit disingenuous to bring up in this case. But from your perspective I would be having some ??? myself. I had gone through this stuff with one of my graduate assisitants this past year; he and his mother live here and the rest of the family is in Cuba.

The Kennedy's
Speaking of the Kennedy brothers, Jack and Bobby, who tried to have Fidel assasinated. What ever happened to them? What goes around, comes around.

The U.S. policy for Cuba is counter productive. As soon as we put sanctions on the Cuban people we handed Castro the best physcological weapon against us that there can be.
Castro still got what he wanted from his people, he smoked what he wanted, and the people suffered.
Had we not seen to it that the people of Cuba suffered for lack of human necessities the blame for the bad times in Cuba would have fallen on Castro, and who knows they may have gotten rid of him long ago., But no we gave him an enemy, the U.S. for him to point to for their problems, not himself.

I see your point Cat's and i certainly never meant to offend anyone but to me who doesn't know the full story in either the US or Cuba it seemed ironic that you allowed them in while on the kick the illegals out site it was all for it. Thats what the Scarface point was about, I kow a little truth but not a whole lot of fact, in this area.

1. Actaully there is quite a bit of oil there, Russia and China are drilling off their coast, the latter is allegedly slant drilling into our coastline where congress won't let us drill.
2. Potentially a huge tourist area such as it was when it was mob ruled.
3. We lost many assets their.
4. It could be a strategic military point (Remeber Russia?)
I think it's inevitible. It is rumored that Bush has piled up close to $100 billion in private money to develop Cuba. It seems this may have been planned for a while.

Cuba would probably willingly become a territory like Puerto Rico. We already have Guantanamo Bay Naval Station there. This would also make getting really good cigars a lot easier (and legal too).

Good cigars is about the only export Cuba has right now, they would be way better off as a US territory. Hell, Guam is a US territory. This is where my conservative side kicks in...and I do not think it is Imperialistic in the least. It is not like Cuba is some third world undiscovered lost civilization that we would ruin. Quite the opposite, they have gone through hell with people taking the island over and it is time for some stability, and honestly, we should have control of Haiti too. They would be way better off and our tax $ would be better spent rather then what we do now for both places.
