What About Africa?
I may be from California, but I can't help wondering what the hell we're doing by not sending more humanitarian aid and perhaps even considering intervening in some of the African countries?
I'm not just talking about the AIDS crisis. Most of the so-called governments in the countries are dictatorships of the worst kind who practice genocide on the same level as Saddam Hussein ever did (and often worse), yet we seem to be oblivious to these problem areas.
Is it because Africa has nothing we need and who cares about a bunch of blacks killing each other anyway? Have we gotten to that point? If so, it makes me sick. Well, maybe the airplane crash today in Nigeria that may have had some American students on board who died will get some attention to an area that sadly needs a whole lot more assistance than it receives from the most wealthy nation in the world.

Nobody really pays attention to them because they don't have any resources and they don't really help or hurt us one way or the other - so people just don't care. It's sad - any part of the world that we aren't directly interested in, we just forget about.

There are all kinds of issues there I really wish we would try to do something about. From the genocide in Darfur to the AIDS crisis, Africa is the continent with the most problems and the least assistance. They've suffered a lot from colonialism, and a lot of countries owe them. We're not responsible, no, but we ought to help out just because we are a country of good people.

I actually think it best to say out of Africa as long as Bush is prez. Everything he touches seems to turn to shit.

Really, got any proof of that? Or is Saddam the threshold? Or is what you are saying is that since we can't cure all of the world's problems at once we shouldn't be bothered with the immediate threat of the Iraqis?

Have we gotten to that point? Have you ever opened a history book? You know that they are killing themselves (each other) but in the past it was Euros enslaving and killing them. Remember, King Leopold and Belgium and the Congo? He was the only king to ever wholly own a country.
How about the Africans start solving some of their own shit?
Hmmmm,...why does it have to be about the most wealthy nation?
Did the US ever hold colonies there? No.
But the French did.
The English did.
The Dutch did.
The Germans did.
The Spanish did.
The Portuguese did.
The Italians did.
Sounds like the membership of the European Union. Where is your call for them to make up for the mess THEY made there?
Not politcally correct? Or is just that you are a product of the failed leftwing schools of the California People's Republic.
I too am a Californian and was educated here in the public schools, but I think that that was before the morons of the political left addled the minds of the youth.

No matter WHO is in the White House, we should stay away from Africa UNTIL we are given an guarantee that the aid we send goes directly to the people that need it, and NOT to the corrupt governments currently in charge over there in many of the countries.
Increase the aid?? For what?? Aid has been flowing onto that continent for God knows forever, and what is there to show for it??
In my opinion, the direct opposite has happened. The people over there appear to be getting poorer and poorer by the second, by the minute, by the hour, by the day, by the we.... I could go on and on, but I believe everyone gets the gist.
To continuosly send money over there, blindly, is foolish.

What about it?
Let the UN take care of it. That is what they are supposed to be doing anyways.

Well said........
Africa won't be a major issue until Asia and South America beocme more developed, then all the cheap labor and resource pillaging will move there. Like you said, its a matter of resources. It's just too bad the UN doesn't have more brass.
