Freedom vs. Responsible reporting
CNN, Nancy Grace want lawsuit dismissed
Reporters from CNN badgered the mother of a toddler that was missing to the point that when they insisted on airing the interview, the mother killed herself just before it was to air. The toddler, who would be 3 now has not been found.
When does freedom of speech cross the line of responsible reporting and become harrassment? When should so called reporters, yellow journalists I would call that kind, be held responsible for their actions.
We are free to say what we wish unless it is untrue, or harms another person, either intentionally or carelessly.
Would we have found the child, or at least his remains? Was the mother responsible for his death. We will probably never know because of the irresponsible reporting of one organization.

It will be up to the courts to decide what the difference is, but it does seem like you could use some commonsense and decency when preparing stories for the masses.

The news media always uses the phrase "The publics right to know". I wonder if they really believe this or what they really are thinking is "If I can get my story on the air I can ask for an increase in salary"? What if out of common decency I, as the public, just don't want to know? Remember a few years ago when Madonna was photographed nursing her newborn. The photographer actually trespassed on her property to take the picture. I am no Madonna fan by any stretch but she is entittled to her privacy.

Nate, many times I think the media wants us to know and we as the public has no say in it. Although if enough people stopped watching certian programs, I think that they would get the message.

Very true Nate. But the press should be held in check by commonsense.

Senselationist media is nothing new. It is up to the viewer to deal with this. Instead people want to pile more laws and restricion on rights. Lazyness and stupidity.

"But the press should be held in check by commonsense."
>>>There is no market for common sense. That's just the way it is. If there was a market, the media moguls would have sniffed it out decades ago.
