Default Peer-to-Peer File Sharing

Ever since music has been made people have wanted to hear it. However the price has always been high to hear it. From The aveverage price of a concert being $175, and a CD being $13, file sharing networks are a godsend to those who dont want to pay that much or just want a single song. Unfortunatly it is isn't completly legal but is quickly gaining recgogntion, even in the courts.

In all truthfulness, I am against peer-to-peer sharing because if artists don’t get money, then there are no new songs. Now if we took the ideas behind the Audio Protection Act which made cassette tapes and VHS legal and applied it to CD’s and Computers like it’s already applied to MP3 players, then everyone would be happy and music would almost be free.

It should be legal so that there is no precedence for the invasion of your privacy.

I like file sharing. I think it's funny to see artists who are "really in it for the love of music", rally against it, it shows their true nature. Sure you need to make a living but do you really just love music or love the money even more?

I am a teacher. If technology was created that could make my profession obsolete and I wouldn't be able to make money doing it, I would adapt...and find another way to make a living, not whine and complain about how new technology is morally wrong and hurting my way of life.

If all these record execs and artists are pissed about losing millions to file sharing, they should stop putting out cd's and make money from the music different ways.

Locke,

You have to be more specific with this poll question. I believe sharing a file that I own should be (and is) legal.

However, sharing copies of copywrited material is theft.

Thumbs down

So what your saying is that if i burned a CD for you with the songs from an album i just got it would be illegal? Because that is sharing copyrighted material. And that is basicly what goes on in P2P file sharing

Question, does anyone besides me know what the Audio Home Recording Act is?

One more reason for it to be legal, most music is a cover of some others song, while most movies are a remake of a previous one, so what does copyright work to represent.
