I agree a 3rd party is needed. However, the only way a 3rd Party becomes a viable contender/threat to our 2 party system we presently have, is the 3rd Party organizes and grows thru a grass roots movement and participation. Once a thrid party candidates begin to get elected at the local level by geting electing for example school boards, mayoral races, etc at the town and city level. Third party candidates must be able to unseat democrats and republicans at the local level first. Once this is done, the 3rd party will have gained the political clout and capital required to challenge democratic and republican Govenors, U.S. Reps and Senators. Once 3rd parties gain seats in the house and senate, the 3rd party movement can then become serious contenders for the Presidency.

Anything is possible. Never-Say-Never. But the reality is the proponents or supporters for a 3rd party movement definitely have their work cut out.

Mounting a third party run for the Presidency everytime a Presidential Election season araises is like puting cart ahead of the horse. You will get absolutely nowhere.

After All Politics Is All Local.

But with the present electoral system small parties are penialised. Now there are arguments for this as it prevents weak coalition governments from forming, however a third party will not get elected or at least not an interesting one.

I think that is a great idea, but almost impossible to do. So what do we do have a salary cap for campaign's ? only allow them to spend so much? Use strategy and politics to win an election? Sacred cows on both sides wont allow that. You have to have millions to even run for state office almost.

I think the GOP could be broken up as well:

Gop - Far right christian types, Pat Robertson, etc.
- Fiscally conservative moderates - Rudi Gulliani, John McCain, etc.

Anyways..........

I would like to see career politicans get lost, I like the old days when citizens became statesmen, served there time, and then when back to their private job. I think this could help do a lot of good and get some new ideas implemented. I think congress should be limited to 12 years of service, House 3-2 yr terms, Senate 2-6 yr terms.

I would like to see more than just a third party, maybe a fourth or fifth.

You're right, no third party would have much of a chance in an electorial system unless there was a complete social revolution and people we're just sick of the two parties.

With that being said, I support the electorial system becuz it empowers less populated states, if we didn't have it LA and NY would determine our policy and even more people would be disinfranchised in my opinion. Its similar to the senate if you think about.

That's the main problem! Our government is such as Elitest government its rediculous. It make me laugh when politicans try to be the common even though they're old money. lol! Our version of democracy isn't democracy at all, it's just a way for Elites with different opinion to check and balance each other!
