Woman mauled to death by dogs

THORNDALE, Texas (AP) -- A pack of six dogs mauled a 76-year-old woman to death as she worked in her yard, authorities said.

Lillian Loraine Stiles was riding on a lawn mower in her front yard Saturday when she was confronted by the dogs, described as pit bull-rottweiler mixed breeds, said Milam County Sheriff Charlie West.

Investigators think Stiles was attacked when she got off the mower and headed into her house.

Stiles had severe bites over her entire body, and a man who tried to help her was bitten on one leg, authorities said.

The dogs were found at the home of Stiles' neighbor, Jose Hernandez.

The sheriff's department will send the findings of its investigation to the Milam County District Attorney's Office, which will decide if any criminal charges will be filed against Hernandez.

And the police are just going to send its report to the DA "which will decide if any criminal charges" are going to be filed. Don't they have leash laws in Texas? At lease they could get him on that? But what the heck kind of birdbrain first of all, owns that many of what is known to be a dangerous breed, especially since dogs are pack animals.

However, knowing it's in Texas, they'll probably let him go, let him have all his nice little doggies back home, and at the same time, be giving the lethal injection to some poor guy who mugged someone for the first time 3 weeks before

I saw a story today about a guy who "disciplined" his dog for digging holes in the back yard by sticking it in one so it couldn't move and covering it up with a board so it couldn't get out. Then he just left it there for a day or two. It lived, but some people just don't need to be owning animals. I hate the government and everything, but this is one area where I think we do need to have strict laws. If you get an animal that you should know you can't control and are letting it injure other people, or if you're mistreating it, we need to have some way to punish you for it.

i'm confused as to what the defined problem is, i am an animal lover, and i dont think they should be beaten, i however don't think they should be raoming aroung biting old ladies.

While there is a war and clearly other problems... America is concerned about dogs.. hmmm.

The fault lies entirely with the owner(s) of the dogs. Dogs do not develop into aggressive animals in a domestic setting (even pit-bulls) without the owner training them to do so.

The dog owner(s) need to be locked up for this.

This jackass , an illegal alien BTW , was raising those dogs to fight . This MORON had a three foot tall chainlink fence that my pit/lab could step over . This has the anti pit people up in arms (again) and they are talking about banning the breed , when what they need to do is ban wetbacks ! This SOB had no business here in the first place much less raising fighting dogs ! Any IDIOT could look at the situation and KNOW what he was doing , the law should have done something long before this happened !!! I do not appreciate your comments about Texas either . SIX rot/pits? We never had a real problem with dog fighting in Texas until we were over run by MEXICANS ! Does that sooth your PC sensabilities ? Yeah I used to have a house and a band and there was a lot of people , so what ? We did not infest the whole neighborhood . This lady was KILLED because some asshole MEXICAN was raising fighting dogs and did not even have enough BRAINS to put up a proper fence . I'm sure he had a cousin that worked on a fence crew .
