Here in Washington D.C. the city is emptying with the speed one would normally expect to see in the advance of a coming catastrophe. But this mass exodus from our nations capitol is not a result of a fleeing population. No, these people have just lost their jobs.
In a stunning move yesterday, seemingly out of nowhere both the house and the senate quickly and almost unanimously passed a new bill removing all money from the electoral and political processes. In what is being described as the single most patriotic event in since the signing and ratification of the Bill of Rights, our politicians voted to forgo all private campaign contributions in favor of a equally government campaign grants for candidates in national elections.
In addition, our national leaders agreed to have all assets frozen or placed in trust during their time in service. It has to be noted here that certain assets can be signed over to spouses and children during this time-period.
Other riders on this bill included rules extending the time between civil service and employment as a lobbyist to 5 years, and strict rules regulating lobbying Congress. No longer can lobbyists engage our politicians behind closed doors, all special interest campaigns must be carried out in the full view of the public eye. Each lobbyist is now limited to making appeals before a convened senate and all lobbying activities are to be recorded in the Congressional record for public view.
While our elected reps will still draw their current salaries, all other expenditures must be approved by a two-thirds majority of a new bi-partisan oversight committee. "Now that our government servants are off the gravy train it's our hope that we can get to the business of making this country great again" said one prominent Legislator.
Ahhhhhh...... I can dream can't I?
