Can't say they were written by press secretaries, or not. But books, by insiders on JFK and his womanizing, and misuse of pain pills, Nixon and his use of foul language (among other things), and then some of the things written about LBJ, were just as bad. Then of course all the things said and written by J. Flowers, about Clinton, well enough said. For the right price, insiders will trash anyone.

I can't remember all of them but many of them do for a big fat book deal. Those that do not probably do not need the money.

Dick Morris has made a career out of trashing Hillary. If something happens to her, Morris is out of a job.

Thanks for no specifics...because there are none that really compare to this. Let me help you out here...the closest you can get is the "Pentagon Papers" and that basically was the beginning of the end for Nixon. And, BTW, blow jobs and temper tantrums don't quite measure up to lying about an all out war.

Well, I'll be interested to see what news shows he goes on to promote his book. If it's places like MSNBC, NBC, Larry King or more 'liberal' places like that, then I'll not only know more about the book and whose backing it but it will certainly say a lot about the man.

Why wouldn't they? It's a big story and truth be told they've treated Hillary a hell of a lot better than the other news channel's. The only FOX I watch regularly is O'Reilly so I can't speak for the other shows but O'Reilly had mentioned tonight that initially McClelland would be on but now McClelland's reps. said he won't be on.

Yes, I'm particularly enjoying the shock and denial exhibited by those in the White House.

McClellan recounts how Bush, as governor of Texas, spelled out his approach about the press at their very first meeting in 1998. He said Bush "mentioned some of his expectations for his spokespeople — the importance of staying on message; the need to talk about what you're for, rather than what you are against; how he liked to make the big news on his own time frame and terms without his spokespeople getting out in front of him, and, finally, making sure that public statements were coordinated internally so that everyone is always on the same page and there are few surprises."

In September 2002, Bush's chief economic adviser, Larry Lindsey, ran afoul of the president's rules by saying the cost of a possible war with Iraq could be somewhere between $100 billion and $200 billion. Bush was irritated and made sure that Lindsey was told his comments were unacceptable. "Lindsey had violated the first rule of the disciplined, on-message Bush White House: don't make news unless you're authorized to do so," McClellan wrote.

Within four months, Lindsey was gone, resigning as part of a reshaping of Bush's economic team.
