As with life the schools have a group of kids who have and plenty of kids who have not. And I am not talking about material things. I am talking about kids who have the support of their parents to excel and do things with their lives. Parental involvement. And unfortunately there is a bigger group of kids whose parents don't teach the value of a education at all.

I don't know where all you folks live but schools where your at must be very different from the ones I am used to. We still have vocational schools and they are big where I live. Kids can decide if they want to go on to college or in the 10th grade go to vocational school and be taught everything from diesel mechanics to hair stylist. Computer sciences are now big at the vocational schools around here too.

The vocational schools often have their own smaller graduation ceremony, but the vocational schools often have kids from several school districts attending. These kids all go back to their home schools for their main graduation ceremony. They may have a 4.0 GPA that came from the vocational school. Meaning as far as academic courses went most take only basic math and english while spending the main of their days learning their chosen trade. There 4.0 grades can hardly be compared to a student who is in college prep classes and taking advanced maths , sciences and Englishs.

What you saw at graduation most likely George was a lot of kids coming from different programs and the audience is not told that. After all they don't want to devalue a 4.0 at the vocational school, even though its not the same 4.0 as the kid going on to college.

And colleges do take SAT scores as the main indicator along with student involvements and extra curricular activities and civic involvement when determining a kids enrollment to college.
