Default Criminalizing Home Schoolers

Welcome to the police state! The greater majority of home schooled kids I have run across far exceed the education requirements of goverment education.

Parents of the approximately 200,000 home-schooled children in California are reeling from the possibility that they may have to shutter their classrooms — and go back to school themselves — if they want to continue teaching their own kids. On Feb. 28, Judge H. Walter Croskey of the Second District Court of Appeals in Los Angeles ruled that children ages six to 18 may be taught only by credentialed teachers in public or private schools — or at home by Mom and Dad, but only if they have a teaching degree. Citing state law that goes back to the early 1950s, Croskey declared that "California courts have held that under provisions in the Education Code, parents do not have a constitutional right to home school their children." Furthermore, the judge wrote, if instructors teach without credentials they will be subject to criminal action.

As a military family, I have seen many home schooled families in OK, NY, WA, SC, VA, GA,and AZ. The military famlies that I know that home school to keep the kids current. When you move to a different state every 2-3 years you will either lag behind or pull ahead. The military families that I know, both parents have college degrees, keep current with state laws, and the kids are socialized within the public or private school activities. However, I have known some civilians that home-school for religious reason and aren't educated, which this article applies to. I have watched The Duggar family on TV and I really can't fathom how she homeschools 17 children. The Jim Bob & Michelle Duggar Family

1. home schooling needs to be regulated NATIONALLY.
2. home schooling/tutors need to have a teaching certificate.

LEGEND

GREEN States requiring no notice: No state requirement for parents to initiate any contact.

YELLOW States with low regulation: State requires parental notification only.

ORANGE States with moderate regulation: State requires parents to send notification, test scores, and/or professional evaluation of student progress.

RED State with high regulation: State requires parents to send notification or achievement test scores and/or professional evaluation, plus other requirements (e.g. curriculum approval by the state, teacher qualification of parents, or home visits by state officials).

I'm paying to send my kids to private school so they won't be surronded by NUMBNUTS like you.
