Thumbs down Feds May Regulate Political Blogs and Other Political Content Providers

Quote:
The Federal Election Commission is considering regulating and restricting online entities and activities which run to the political, including political blogs and other political content providers and sources.

It did say in the article:

Quote:
six commissioners who sit on the Federal Election Commission, fully four of them have come out publicly against overreaching regulation, at least, of independent bloggers. Said Commissioner Ellen Weintraub, I really see no appetite at the agency for regulating bloggers. I would be very, very surprised if that was the result.
However; this is a topic that needs to be monitored!

This is something both right and left can unite on. Using campaign laws to shut down speech on the Internet is just a bad idea and I don't see any potential justification for it. Blogs expose corruption in politics, and if you shut them down you're just helping the established interests that campaign finance laws are designed to regulate.

Agreed. This is no different then people who hold protests and hand out brochures. I find it funny that the same people who hope for more informed voters are considering limiting ways that voters become informed. Even if some information is false, the fact of the matter is that it is promoting discussion which is invaluable.

This is complete BS, just another slide down the slippery slope, I hope someone like the ACLU will fight this. I don't see how they can regulate bloggers. I bet many from both parties will support this becuz it will help them maintain control. While blogging can benefit them, it can also be used to rally up support for a new grass roots movement. If you check out what most are really saying is that, they're pissed at the government period!!!

Of course it will pass. That is how 98% of of Congress is re-elected. That is one area BOTH sides will agree on.
Remember the talk about term limits in Congress? That went down the tubes fast didn't it?
