Great thread, freedomlover ! Torture doesn't work; it's also counterproductive. The small benefit provided by what little information you gain through torture is far outweighed by torture's negative side effects; besides, the chances are that the forcibly acquired information is unreliable.

This last paragraph of yours is exactly why you need to get a grip. You see things that are not there.
As I said, you are the one who said these things, not me. In your first post you make the assumption that this man may still be innocent despite whatever evidence our government says it has against him. You make the assumption that intelligence regarding 9/11, Iraq, and other matters is faulty and you make the assumption that a good portion of that intelligence is gathered through torture. That's the whole premise of your thread and the question of why intelligence gained through torture isn't reliable. If you didn't believe they were gaining all this intelligence through torture then there would be no reason for this thread because the subject would be moot. The fact that you brought it up at all is evidence that you believe everything I've stated here. Apparently I'm not the only one who garnered that from your original post either.

Furthermore, you stated the following:
Quote:
As far as "self-loathing" outrage, well, you do realise that everytime you compare the US to some country you consider as low lifes, that you lower the greatness of this country?
In exactly whose view is that you believe the greatness of this country is being lowered, if not the view of other countries?

So, please stop saying that I'm putting words in your mouth. The words and implications are all yours. If anything you're putting words in my mouth because I never called anyone in another country "low lifes". If anyone needs to get a grip on this issue, I'm afraid it's you dear.

I agree torture is counterproductive Ciz, but that seems to create a problem. Do we just keep them the prisoners in jail until the war is over? There would seem to be little reason to question them. While forcibly acquired information is unrealible, there is no such thing as unforcibly acquired information.

I say, why not let our covert agents do the job at getting these small cell groups of terrorists. Why pay to have people turn in their neighbors as the bush admin did in Pakistan to round up "terrorists" so the American people would believe you were doing your job?

Torture never has gotten truth.
