Mark Cuban is vindicated
Finally it is acknowledged that NBA officials (at least one) are the worst (of MLB, NFL, NBA) at officiating their respective sport. The FBI is investigating one of the officials for betting on games, including ones he officiated. The claim that NBA officials are inconsistent and favor certain teams/players has been much more prevelant than anyone criticizing NFL or MLB officials/umpires for the same thing. I, like many, have always thought there was somthing to this.

I heard about this story this morning....It's pretty nasty to think a ref (who bet on the game) is making the calls.......Gives you something to think about next time you see a ref/ump make a blatantly stupid call. Is he blind or did he bet on the game?

I heard this and it was pretty alarming to hear about the one official. I am not sure how it makes a case for Mark Cuban and what he has to say.

It is about one official now, who knows if there are more. The NBA is most likely going to go back and review games from the past ten to fifteen years because of this. Cuban has bashed officials time and time again. It isn't because he is the only one that feels this way, it is because he doesn't give a shit about a six figure fine which comes after the criticism. Hell, maybe Cuban was wrong. Maybe the officials aren't bad but rather they have some cheaters in their midst.
I hope this guy officiated a Mavericks playoff game at some time and Cuban comes out and bashes the NBA officials - and most of them do a worse job than either NFL or MLB officials/umpires.
If this guy was doing this on a consistent basis the other officials had to know something was up. They officiate many games each year and you have to believe that the officials do talk among themselves.

Dom, your logic basically says that since Pete Rose was betting on games then there has to be a number of other guys who did it...

Except that you can watch NBA games and see these crazy calls or no calls. They aren't consistent and some players get babied. I am not saying the officials are betting on games, but I am saying that they do play favorites out there. They have the support of King Stern and they, unlike officials in baseball and football, seem to think people paid money to watch them officiate. I would say a lot of college officials are better and their day jobs are selling insurance.

I agree...how many times have you witnessed the ref's letting people start from half court and take a dozen strides to make a "slam" without making the call for steps.......perhaps for games at a time...then for no apparent reason...someone is called for merely lifting a foot....when the point spread is about to be closed in a playoff game......there is no consistency at all....and makes one scratch his head....why the call should be made with a ten point lead one way or another and a few seconds on the game clock...its the small things that dont make a hell of lot of sense that catches my attention. No other sport but the NBA has comebacks from deficits like the NBA. Officiating is part of it. The game gets called differently and sometimes it allows teams to get back into the game.

Yea but what gets to me is, when they let them play under the boards....knock each down....camp out under the basket....practically wrestle...then in the same game....with no apparent way that one team can overcome the other....they start making chicken shit calls...consistency should prevail thought the length of the game....regardless of how much time is on the clock.
