anyone gone to the CWS?
Depending on how the Longhorns do in the regionals I wonder if it is worth the 10+ hour drive from here. Has anyone gone to Omaha for the College World Series? I have no gigs or teaching during that time this summer and the 'Horns won the Big 12, they look very good...thinking seriously about this if it possible to find a room and get tickets.
Can anyone fill in the blanks for me here? Advice? Have you gone?

Wrong again Spit, they play Michigan in the first round tomorrow. Now, if they win they will most likely face Vandy...that will not be a pretty site considering Vanderbilt is #1 in the country right now.
The Longhorn backet looks good for Texas. They will most likely get to Omaha again and that is the baseball legacy right there. No one can touch the Texas Longhorns in baseball; no way, no how. More CWS appearances and a WAY longer legacy that dates back to about 1918 or so.

Wrong Again? What have I ever been wrong about before? I will be pulling for my Horns... 1 TEAM, 1 TEAM. I live in Houston, not far from Rice, but I am not pulling for Rice. I am not pulling for U of H, I don't have a third cousin who once drove through Tenn., so I could pull for Vandy, no sir, I am loyal to 1 TEAM.

Spit, that is admirable. It is fine but I do like the sports teams of the kids I work with and have had several of those kids in my classes, I do pull for them. I ask to be granted an exception in this case.
A bit saddened to go by my other 'alma mater' two weeks ago when visiting my folks, I saw the baseball team (Cal State U Los Angeles). They were in the NCAA Div IA when I went to school there (20+ years ago) and did well against even the likes of Pepperdine and CSUF; now CSULA has been dropped to Div II. They are only a mere shell of thier former self . That and soccor were the two shining lights on the campus, I am sorry the CSULA president has allowed the sports program to tank so badly.
OF course I am pulling for the HORNS and that never changes Spit, and you know that, they are the elite of elite in baseball .
HOOK 'EM HORNS!!!

My friends go nearly every year. THey have nothing but good things to say about the culture found there, but hey, we're in our mid to early 20's. Nevertheless, they report laid-back, good ole' American baseball environment. Kansas to Omaha is a bit easier to pull, however. You should go Cat and if I wasn't taking my wife to the hospital for her frequent contractions, I'd be tempted to go as well. Hope this helped.
PS- Funny though, I'll probably see it anyway. Every time we stay in the hospital overnight my wife is always quick to tell me who's playing tonight in the MLB, while scanning for the game. Nurses walk in, see and hear the Braves and Cubs on (that was today) and give me a look of disdain. Sexism at its finest I tell you. I smile and laugh inside.

Thanks, it does help. I will have to see what happens when we get closer and how the Longhorns do (they won yesterday in the first regional, YES). Memphis already has lost the first game so that is a washout I am sure, I am not too worried about them...thier first tourney in about 13 years, no expereience and made too many mistakes yesterday.
Lets see how the Horns do...thanks
