Default Here we go again...damn Yankees

So the NY Yankees are now up by more than 10 in the AL East just before the playoffs. I sure like Joe Torre (he dates back tot he old California Angels for me, also he was with the SL Cards, always a good thing) but that is where any admiration for the Yankees stops. The best baseball team that money can buy... If they were run by a different owner then I might like them more; George has pretty his own set of rules when it comes to the way he wants things done in NY all of MLB. I want the Mets to play the Yankees in the WS and clobber them back to the Bronx and kick them off the GW expressway into the East River.

Actually they should rename that team 'the Steinbrenners'...

BTW...the Atlanta Braves have been eliminated from making the playoffs for the first time in 14 years. Their reign and the NL east has come to an end...

I still say it will be hard for the yankees to get there. Their ace is Wang, and Johnson is inconsistent. Mussina is getting older and it is showing. He has been on the DL twice in the last two months and has not went over six innings in a long time. Pitching usually takes over in the playoffs, and the Yankees have to find a way to get the game to the ninth with a lead. When they have that they have almost already won the game with Rivera on the hill. I don't know where their three and four will come from. Jaret Wright is not the answer, and the others can't match up to the pitchers they will see in the playoffs. The advantage they have is they have such a big lead they can rest pitchers.

By the way, the Mets and Red Sox aren't exactly cheapskates when it comes to paying players.

They went through the salaries yesterday on the radio and the Yankees are clearly the champs when it comes to payroll spending; and they win that race every year. Yes, many teams have 'big' payrolls but the is relative. We have debated salaries in a thread before Dom, the fact that Steinbrenner is able to get his way with no workable salary cap is nuts.
