Default Best active player in MLB?

My choice: Albert Pujols, St. Louis Cardinals.
.332 life time batting average, 282 home runs over 7 years.

Rodriguez is a great player, but in crunch time he has consistently choked.

Big at bat in a big game and Rodriguez will K. Big at bat in a big game and Pujols comes through (ask Brad Lidge). Not only that, Pujols doesn't have a bunch of good players setting the table around him like Rodriguez does.

No doubt. I was talking on the email with my dad about how bad the Dodgers are doing with Joe Torre. It was very clear they could not handle Pujols over this last weekend series on Dodgers Stadium. If it is the 9th and you are behind with 2 on with two outs Pujols IS THE GUY I would wnat at the plate...no question. No one can hit in those siutations like him and his fielding is as good as anyone...he made a wonderful grab to his right the other night that shut down a Dodger rally.

I am not so sure, Ankiel/Duncan/Ludwig seem to be supporting him pretty well right now.

Good players, no doubt, but compare that with Jeter, Damon, Cano, Posada, Abreu, etc, over the past few years and there is no comparison.

When was the last time the Yankees played in a WS? I am not sure they are coming through for the Yankees these past few years.

Their indivual numbers are pretty good.

I would take Jeter's numbers over Eckstein's.
And Damon's (or Williams four years ago) over Edmonds.
And Posada over Matheny or Molina's.
And Soriano/Cano's over Vina/second base by committee.
And Matsui over RF by committee.

The Yankee pitching is what holds them back.

You are talking about a Cardinals line up that does not exist any longer I hope you know(?) Kennedy is pretty much the guy at 2nd now.
