It's Baseball Season!!!!......
Ok baseball fans.....Let the games begin!!
Living in North Jersey i'm a Yankee fan and it's going to be an exciting year as the Yankees have finally ditched their manager Joe Torrie. I liked Joe Torrie but lets face it....his day has come and gone. Time for new blood....and thats where Joe Gerardi comes into play! They played their first game of the year yesterday against the Blue Jays and won 2-1 . May not seem like a big victory but being that it was up against a team in which they had a hard time beating last year it was a satisfying game.
PLAY BALL!

I was asking myself where he went. He's a good guy. I just dont think he gets into the game. He seems to lack energy and motivation with the team. Maybe a change of teams was the best for him.

I think he will be a good fit in LA, he is a lot like Walter Alston was...serious with a quiet intensity, LA won two WS with Alston. That was the team I grew up watching out there, the best minor league system of that era...they need to go back to building a team that way.

A-Rod's Salary: $28 Million; Marlins' Payroll: $21 Million -- Major League Baseball, Wrigley Field, Florida Marlins -- Courant.com
Quote:
Alex Rodriguez is making more than the payroll of the entire Florida Marlins.
Boosted by his new deal with the Yankees, A-Rod tops the Major League Baseball salary list at $28 million, according to a study of contract terms by The Associated Press. The 33 players on the Marlins' Opening Day roster and disabled list total $21.8 million.
For the first time, the average salary topped $3 million. The 855 players on Opening Day rosters and the DL averaged $3.15 million, up 7.1 percent from $2.94 million last year.
Florida's highest earner (pitcher Kevin Gregg, $2.5 million) doesn't even make the average.
The Marlins' payroll was less than half that of the No. 29 team, the Rays ($43.8 million).
"They've won a championship more recently than we have as an organization. So there's many different ways to skin a cat," said Yankees general manager Brian Cashman, whose team lost to Florida in the 2003 World Series.
The Yankees, not surprisingly, topped the payroll list at $209.1 million, and A-Rod was No. 1 in the majors for the eighth straight year. Followed by teammates Jason Giambi at $23.4 million and Derek Jeter ($21.6 million). Red Sox left fielder Manny Ramirez is fourth ($18.9 million).

Not so sure about that. Tht division is pretty wide open and San Diego is better than they were last year.

Managers have little to do with a team's success at that level. I think GM's have just as big a role and perhaps even bigger.
Sparky Anderson said it best when he said something along the lines of a major league manager's main job is to make sure not to trip the players running out of the dugout.

I heard he moved to Florida, but am not sure. It wouldn't be too smart to live in Chicago any longer.
