I'm looking at the Lopez brothers and Stanford as a potentially big surprise. They're ceded no. 3 in the South and have what should be an easy first round game against Cornell which will be played in Anahiem. After that they would get the winner of Kentucky/Marquette.

I know they're a long shot, but they finished second to UCLA and the PAC 10 was the toughest conference in the nation this year. I'm going partly with my heart, because after all, isn't that what the tournament is all about?

I see where you live...you watch PAC 10 BB. The ACC and Big East easily are the heaviweight leagues. The PAC 10 did not put the biggest # of teams in the tourney BTW.

I understand that, but the Pac 10 put 6 teams in the tournament, equal to the SEC, while the ACC only placed 4. The Big East had more, but I'll put this year's PAC 10 up against the Big East anytime. The Pac 10 also has 2 teams (UCLA,Stanford) in the AP top ten compared to only Georgetown for the Big East.

As for bias, I detect a distinct bias in your reviewing of the chances of the Memphis Tigers. They may have lost only 1 game, but the CUSA is hardly the Pac 10 or Big East. They may make the final four, but until then, in my mind, they have yet to prove themselves.

Reread my post Upton:

This time Memphis has the WORST/TOUGHEST bracket by far.

They have (rounds):

1. Texas-Arlington (this is a win)

2. Oregon or Miss State (both are good teams that can upset Memphis)

3. probably Pittsburgh or Michigan State (ouch, this is very tough)

4. probably Stanford or Texas (tough again and Texas vs Memphis is not one I want to have to watch---TX being my alma mater)

5. probably Duke or UCLA (very tough)
I said they have the toughest bracket and they even have a chance to get upset in the second round. My biased is against them if anything...I am not sure what you are reading. I did not say anything that you have not, they have to prove themselves.

>>>I don't know about that, but if Arizona made it into the tournament, the PAC-10 can't be all that hot. Arizona is undersized, has no forwards and no bench to speak of, and is relying on a freshman point guard.

I see you're right, sorry, it will be interesting to see how they do. I'm just not too impressed with CUSA. I think if you put the Tigers in the PAC 10, they would have 3 or 4 more losses minimum.

I don't think Arizona belonged either, ASU should have gone instead. ASU finished 5th in the conference, Arizona 7th. ASU also had a slightly better overall record. More than anything, I think past reputation worked in the Wildcat's favor. Still I don't see how that reflects negatively on the strength of the conference.

I don't totally buy into this, Memphis played the highest RPI non-conference schedule in the whole NCAA. If thye did not do that then I would agree with you about this because CUSA is no better than the A10 or MWC.

Non conference RPI? I don't know how reflective that is of their overall strength, considering many top teams schedule some real patsies out of conference. I just wonder how Memphis would have done playing both UCLA and Stanford twice. Not to mention WSU, USC and Ore. all of whom are in the tournament. That's where I come up with my three or four more losses.

I am going to come the other way...how would have UCLA done by playing UConn, Gonzaga, OU, Georgetown, TN, ...Memphis played USC and AZ too, and UCLA lost at Pauly to USC.
