The sport has evolved and standup is a skill that has gone by the wayside partly b/c of Gracie and the sheer fact that a fight can be ended by a big puncher getting a rear naked choke in 45 sec of the first of 5 rds.
Pride Fight champions? Like Wanderlei "The Axe Murderer" Silva? The fight tonight showed a little something about that. That guy was hamburger in the first 6 min. UFC champs like Couture and Liddell dominate Period. Put anybody up against Couture and they get their ass beat by a 44 year old. I'd also like to see someone from K-1 or Pride knock of Anderson "Spider" Silva.
The money brings in the best fighters.

Gracie was 40 years old when he got beat by Hughes. Gracie at 30 would have won. Just like age has caught up to Ken Shamrock, who would have beat Tito Ortiz when he was 25.
Fedor Emelianko is a Pride Champ, and he may be the best in the world. He beats both Liddell and Coulture and any other UFC fighter. I think the reason he didn't come to the UFC was because Dana White strokes his favorites like Ortiz and Liddell and screws a lot of the others. White controls the money like McMahon does in WWF and the fighters end up getting screwed.
Anderson Silvia came from Pride (only left because Pride was about to be sold to the UFC) and he has a better record in the UFC against UFC fighters than he did against Pride fighters while he was there. Take that for what it is worth, I know realize he may have gotten better with time, but he got beat by several Pride fighters while he was there. So some Pride fighters did knock him off.

Gracie was amazing but that was when the sport featured tough guys who liked to stand and swing. Not taking anything away from him but fights would look a lot different. And as for the age, Chuck is 38 and Couture is 44. Like I said, Gracie brought the element of submission to the forefront and that has changed the sport forever.
Shamrock is and always has been overrated, IMO. Tito is too busy banging Jenna Jamison and can't get focused for a fight. He's nothing now.

FE probably does beat Liddell. . . if he doesn't get caught with a right. Also, Chuck fights light heavy weight and would give up +30 lbs.
Dana White's an ass but Ortiz is certainly not one of his favorites.
People go to UFC because White gets them big fights. Like I said, he an ass but he's done quite a lot for the sport.

Like you suggested +5 years has done a lot for him. Those guys don't beat him now especially since he's been coming to the states working his ground game.

The UFC is by far the best MMA organization. All the best fighters from pride have all come to the UFC: Silva, Nogueira, Cro Cop, etc. The only top K-1 fighters are Sakuraba Emelianenko. Royce Gracie was the champion only when he was the only one who knew Jiu Jitsu. If matt hughes of two years ago had fought royce when royce was 30, royce still would have been destroyed, even more so than he did two years ago because he didn't have any stand up skills back then. Believe me, Nothing can touch the UFC right now and nothing will for a long time.

Former PRIDE heavyweight champion and current M-1 Global fighter Fedor Emelianenko will meet with estranged UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture on Thursday -- likely to discuss the bout that the two fighters have long desired.
The news comes from the m1mixfight.com website, which is run by Emelianenko's management team, which is headed by Vadim Finkelstein.
Although it's being held under the guise of a business meeting between Emelianenko and representatives of Couture's Affliction clothing line (Emelianenko may sign a sponsorship deal with the company), Emelianenko "plans to meet Randy Couture there to discuss things in person," according to the website. Those "things" could include a future fight.
The meeting will take place in Los Angeles.
Back in October, Couture announced his resignation from the UFC citing a lack of respect from UFC officials, issues of his pay, and the UFC's inability to sign then-top free agent Emelianenko to a UFC contract (Couture had stated on numerous occasions that a victory over Emelianenko is about the only thing the 44-year-old think that he has left to accomplish in his career). Couture plans to sit out of competition until October, when he feels his UFC fight and employment contracts expire. However, UFC President Dana White had continually stated that the contracts won't expire until Couture fulfills the terms of the deal.
The matter's likely to end up in the courts.
Emelianenko, a 31-year-old Russian, signed a non-exclusive deal with the restructured M-1 Global organization in October. He was permitted to compete in a New Year's Eve show in Japan against 7-foot-2 kickboxer Hong-Man Choi, whom he submitted in just under two minutes. The victory pushed Emelianenko's record to 27-1.
As for the potential Couture-Emelianenko fight -- if it ever happens -- it has the potential to be one of the biggest fights in MMA history. A number of organizations are already thought to be vying for hosting duties.

You are wrong about Gracie, maybe you should review som eold tapes. Not only that, Gracie was winning when there were NO weight classes, which means that if it were the same way today Hughes would have to beat the heavyweights to even have a comparable career as Gracie. Lets see Hughes take on people that he is giving 70 pounds to. Gracie did and beat them.
When those guys were in the Pride fighting a few had worse records than when fighting the UFC fighters.

I agree Hughes at his best doesn't beat Gracie at his best. The weight class is a good point but then again those guys didn't know what the hell an arm bar was.
When those Pride fighters were getting beat they were not the fighters they are today. I think Pride is a stepping stone for talent and salary. People are using it for both.
