Angry Emotion, for good or destruction

The most powerful thing on earth is the use of emotion. It is a two eged sword. It gets things done, it stops things from being done, it motivates, it causes great things, and it destroyes peoples lives.

Emotion has it's place in motivating accomplishments, but has no place in politics to be used as a tool for negitivism. when our representatives point out their best points it is positive in effect. Then the electorite can judge for themselves which is the better choice. The nation would benefit, as would the world.

Slander, misinformation, and misrepresentation of another's record needs to be a felony and strongly punished. Why should we be permitting the unscrupulis to take away a true choice? If those who really love our country want to do the best thing they should enact legislation to put teeth into the laws to prevent the corrupt practices in political campaigns.

Untill that is done no politician can claim love for his country!!!! Only love for power and his pocket is his motivation.

I saw representatives from both parties talk about this the other night. They both said it is getting even more vicious, and they both acknowledged that it wasn't a good thing. However, they both did say that negative adds will continue because they are highly effective. The reason they are highly effective is because the electorate views them that way. They also both claimed that these attacks by both parties would not be ending any time soon. It seems that the electorate is as much to blame as the politicians for validating these attacks.

On emotions, its what makes us human. I would just to ad that not all destruction (or attempt of) is negative. Destruction or disaster has a way to bring the best out of people. After 9/11 we were one country again (even though it didn't last long). The Tsunami disaster brought people together from around the world to work together to help those in need.

On emotions in politics, it can have both positive and negative impacts on all of us. Emotions can either bring us together or tear us apart, therefore it is up to us individually and collectively to recgonize the symptoms so that we may benefit from the psotivie aspect and avoid the negative aspects.

On politics and negative ads. I'm embarrassed of our politics and media as of late. One politicians was recently asked if he had Jewish heritiage but his heritiage has absoluly nothing to do with his record or ability to perform duies required by the position. During the 04 elecions we heard BS from both sides about past military experiences blah blah blah, who cares? I don't care if someone was a playboy when 30 years ago and would bet most prolly don't.

Why have politics turned into a circus of a popularity contest rather a debate on policy and issues? I don't want to hear about what stock an individual owns I want to speciifcally know how they're gonna save SS or change our healthcare system. I truly believe this is why we have to choose between to morons every elections, more capable people don't want the BS involved with their personal life especially when they can make much more money in the private sector.

What say you?

Cool Thank you dom and Roman

thank you for acknowledging the thread.

I agree with what both you you said. and want to comment on part of Roman's post. I was not including the news casting of negative happenings in the world to do with disasters. I was only refering to the human tendencies of those who use negative political misinformation and hate to sway voters. It is too bad voters don't wise up to the tactic as being fraudulint and a mirror of the person responcible for the attack adds. It perpetuates resentment and reciprical actions by those unable to control their emotions. It is a cancer in America that grows into something far more dangerous than any military war.

Roman: Excellent post, not much to add.

I rarely watch tv, except for Law and Order. Blessed campaigns advertisements, made me turn it to Rachey Ray! It was truly slander and couldn't bare to watch it.

Don't feel bad we did not get to this so soon...

This is a good subject.

You can set your clock by this quote from me...I use it all the time

"If the guy that can get the job done in political office is really smart, compassionate, and pragmatic but is dull as dishwater and can stay out of the public eye (any bad stuff)...then that is the guy I will vote for!"

I am still very pissed at the Democratic party about not moving Bill Bradley
forward in 1992 to be the candidate. He would have EASILY been one of the top ten presidents of all time. Tall (played for the Knicks), sort of homely like Abe Lincoln, not a great energizing speaker really...but this guy was off the map smart and got a lot of stuff done as a statesman...he was outstanding.

The system is not set up for smarts on an unemotional level. These are beauty contexts and we really do shoot ourselves in the foot everytime. People get their damn information from ads and don't read. Between Clinton and Bradley...Bradley was the clear cut better man and nobody saw it. Powell was not promoted by the Rep party to get the nomination in 2000...very foolish.

It just makes me pissed how much people don't pay attention to who is REALLY good that we have out there...depressing, it just sucks...

Talking

I agree about Powell, but he was too smart to want to go through the gind mill. His wife had input on his decision also. I admire him and would have voted for him.

The Republicans would not have liked his doctrine on war. It was just to logical and workable.
