This is why I find her laughable.

>>>I find Ayn Rand (aka Alisa Rosenbaum) laughable because the neoconservatives have adopted her philosophies. And I find neoconservatives laughable. Rand is not a philosopher, she is a rationalizer.

I don't agree with a lot of what she says either, George. I have even attempted to discuss her on this forum but so very few understand her and even less have read her works - so it makes it kind of tough. Fatty has obviously never read her works, but I suspect you have.
What parts of her philosophy do you disagree with, George?
Also, neoconservatism's increased social welfare is in opposition to Rand's philosophies. There are other distinct differences as well, but only if someone knew what both a neoconservative and an objectivist were would they know.

I think the main objection the left has to Rand is that she is anti socialist and therefore someone to be belittled

>>>I read "Shrugged" my senior year in HS, so it's been a while. But I don't think there is such a thing as an objective truth. Cats do what cats do because it's in their nature at that is the objective truth. So man will behave according to man's nature and that is also an objective truth. Either I don't understand what she means by 'objective truth' or she severely underestimated the complexity of the world around her.
Btw, I don't think increased social welfare is necessarily part of a good neocon's platform. The don't like to talk about it much. You watch the number of neocons switching back to the Dem Party. Neocons go where the power is. Hillary has 'em flying like monkeys out of her butt.

What don't you understand?
"Objective truth" holds that reality exists independent from consciousness.

>>>Rand was anti-socialist, but her rationale for being anti-socialist was extremely thin and entirely implausible. If I remember her correctly, her rationale was based on 'objective truth'. That's a high-flying phrase meaning absolutely zilch.

I suggest you read her again, in that you seem to be saying I understand A and Z, but know nothing of B through Y. If you don't want to slog through Atlas shrugged, I suggest the Virtues of Selfishness.
I find it funny when people say "oh I read her in high school and didn't understand her" and then use that high school experience as the basis to condemn her.

Reality is how consciousness percieves it's environment.....it is subjective.
Some portions of reality are shared, but not all....(at what point does insanity set in?)
That is defined as much by culture as anything else...which is also subjective.

Tak
Remember "Non Absolute" in Atlas Shrugged?? Think that applies to George?
