I'll stick with calling myself Agnotic, thanks anyway.
From the responses, looks like I'm in better company that way....

i mean, if you're going to still rely on antiquated, unprovable and unmitigated notions like truth, you either haven't thought your ideas through or you're merely one of the million dumb atheist in the world without an intellectual clue.

Then we might hope there is a God. Doesn't mean we will believe there is one.

Scientists are consistent, they are proven wrong 98% of the time.

is the guy holding the gun telling me I have to believe in god or he'll shoot me? cause then of course I'd bust out a prayer to old jeezy kreezy, but if you're saying that somehow our of fear of death I'm going to become a believer, you're sincerely mistaken. First of all, I wouldn't know where to begin. What religion? And, once the religion is chose, I'd still be clueless as to how to practice within that religion. I don't know how to pray or what to pray for, what the rules are.
Also, its entirely out of character. I've actually had a gun to my face, and I didn't think at all of anything religious what so ever, just how to get the gun out of my face. By definition an atheist does not think of religion and apply it to his life, why would I suddenly do that when faced with death? You're the one who finds death so mystifying, who participates in sick tribal death rituals. I'm an atheist, I don't see it that way.
Now, let me speculate!
In the back of every Christian's and theist's mind is that God is not real. To your own admittance, is it not true that many people struggle with their faith? What does that mean other than that most theists secretly know there is no God.

"What was holiest and mightiest of all that the world has yet owned has bled to death under our knives: who will wipe this blood off us? What water is there for us to clean ourselves? What festivals of atonement, what sacred games shall we have to invent?"

No, as an agnostic, even though I do not believe there is a god, I know the difference between that and saying I know for a fact that there is not a god.
I have no issues with people who believe there is a god, I don't agree with them, but that is my issue, not theirs. I don't try to force my belief onto them.
That is why I am not an atheist. In my worldview you really are no better than those who try to force their religion on others.

Dude, I don't have to accept your definition, any more than you have to accept mine!
If you want to say that an atheist only "believes" that there is no god, fine. But that really is a weak form of being an atheist. What do you call people who state as a fact that there is no god? And if atheism includes that, then there is no such thing as agnosticism.
For me, the difference between being agnostic and being an atheist is the "suspension of judgment" involved with the agnostic acknowledging that they could be wrong and that there could be a god. That is my position, I don't think there is one, but I don't know.
