A city politician wants to see the n-word abolished. On the first day of Black History Month, Queens Councilman Leroy Comrie yesterday introduced a resolution calling on New Yorkers to shun the racial slur.

“It’s my hope this resolution will spark a dialogue in all communities and begin to move our society, especially in our entertainment culture, toward a place where the n-word is simply unacceptable to be used in any context,” Comrie said.

Among supporters was Deputy Mayor Dennis Walcott, who said, “I’m a black man who is someone who is just offended anytime I hear the n-word. No matter who uses the word, it’s totally unacceptable. It’s a word that should be banned from our language altogether.”

City Council Speaker Christine Quinn added, “All of us in the council feel extremely strongly that the use of the n-word and other hate speech is something that has to come to an end.”

Comrie said his actions were spurred by the racist tirade of comedian Michael Richards in a Los Angeles comedy club.

State legislators and U.S. Rep. Charles Rangel have indicated that they hope to pass similar measures.

Question, How is our government able to ban words? Who gave them this power? Also, Why the word Nigger, and not Fag, Spic, Jew , Cracker, etc......
I never hear the word nigger being used when i'm out in public. Does anyone else? Or, is it all just being hyped up by the media to eventually give the government more power to take our freedoms away?

Remember, the governmentof NYC has banned the way that they eat. No more trans fats.

The government does not own the people. The people must wake up and stop being heaps of useless flesh in front of the tv accepting such nonsense.

I dunno Petey , their going to have to sensor all rap songs because the word nigger is 65% of the "lyrics" of this so called music . A good friend of mine will fine his five kids EVERY time the word is used and they are black . He racked up enough to buy a pool table for his garage . NYC crime rate must be way down if these clowns have time to ponder regulating speech. What's next, the thought police. I don't allow crap like that said in my home, and have not problem letting others know how I feel about it, but it's not the governments place.
