According to the Maryland paper, it is being investigiated as a hate crime. The kids are charged with aggrevated assault. They also menaced an elderly white man on the bus. The bus driver(a black man) came to the white man's defence and the bus driver was hurt.
Parents are the problem, claiming the woman and her boyfriend, who was also beaten, spit on the kids. However, this is not what the kids said in the initial report.
It does seem to point to a black on white hate crime.
