I was raised in flatbush, Bklyn., and I add, have been called whitey....and never ever to forget "whitebitch"...a long e sound on the beeeitch..
I've gotten over it along time ago and often wear a smirk on my face thinking back on the fun, hilariousness I shared with the black girls I grew up with...
I never had an inclination to call any of my black friends 'nigger' not even in jest AND if I used the word, which I did, I was speaking on fighting terms!

However now, 30years later, the word has grown droul and the angry, hostile tone adhered to the word is more the obvious weapon.
The word has lost alot of the shock and awe...ahem.. except when used in a specific TONE or derogatory CONTEXT.
If you truly define the word 'nigger', it does not even derive from the racial epitaph it has become and its history in english literature demonstrates it such.
