You are Black and have a degree from a major university, and you saw many other Blacks getting degrees...half of my students are Black. I have NEVER, EVER heard the word n*gger used even in the most casual way between Black students on campus. Did you hear this on the UNC campus? Using this term is a low-life thing to do, educated Blacks or whites DO NOT USE this term...Hispanics do not use the term 'Wetback' as some special term of endearment BTW. Is it acceptable for a Black news anchor to use n*gger? No way.
Now, I have noticed that at the HBC in town terms like this and others are used and that does seem to be acceptable when it is in this closed circle. So it is fine to insult one another and always lower the common denominator? So it is OK to do this and get used to it? And, then when it is time to find a job and life in the society as a whole you wonder why 'they' have not come down to 'your' standards of accepting this word or the use of very poor English? Poor English is not accepted from immigrants from other countries, why should that and the word n*igger be accepted from people already living here?
